What a painted pet portrait usually takes

The usual way

  • Find an artist who paints pets, then join the waiting list.
  • Choose one photo, one pose and one size for one painting.
  • Wait weeks while it is painted, dried and shipped.
  • Pay for the painting, and then for the frame.
  • And it is one picture, not a year of them.

The Sunlit Oil Painting way

  • Pick a few photos you already have. About ten minutes at the kitchen table.
  • We paint all twelve months in bright, fresh oils, each one a little luxury.
  • See four of them free, and change anything that is not right.
  • Approve every page. Only then do we print it and post it to you.

No commission and no waiting list. A little luxury on your wall every month.

How it works

  1. 1

    Send us a few photos

The ones you already have are the right ones. A clear face, a couple of angles, and a full length shot if you have one.

  2. 2

    We paint every month

The set, the props, the light and the season, in thick, buttery strokes of fresh pastel color. Your pets sit side by side, faces to you, each in its own true colors.

  3. 3

You say yes, or you change it

Look through the pages, have any picture redrawn or adjusted, and nothing goes to the printer until you have approved every one.

Every picture is made by our AI from the photos you send, in the look of a bright oil painting. There is no easel and no waiting list, and nothing is printed until you approve it.

What makes it Sunlit

Bright, fresh color, and their own coats

Blush pink, powder blue, sage green and butter yellow fill the set and the props, while your pets keep their own true colors, with fine detail in every face.

April in the Sunlit Oil Painting example calendar, with Minnie and Nala

Everyone together, looking at you

If you have more than one, they sit side by side on the same seat, in the same tub or in the same car, every face turned to you. The picture that is hardest to get at home, painted every month.

A black dog sits next to an open printed Watercolor calendar featuring a painting of a dog.
I love the calendar. I ordered 2. One for my Mum and one for Auston’s foster family. Everyone will go crazy for them when they get them for Christmas.

A dog sits on a couch behind a printed Watercolor calendar featuring a painted portrait of the same dog.
I’m am so so pleased with my calendar and I have ordered a second one as a gift. Delivery was quick and the service was second to none. Tilly was at the groomers yesterday so I have added a photo of her ‘normal’ look. I would not hesitate in a recommendation.

Highly recommend these calendars, they are so cute. You get to have input on the details, by editing them. Their customer service is excellent and willing to help to make everything come out right. I loved it so much that I have made 3 calendars so far. Great Christmas gift idea.

Questions people ask

Is it really an oil painting?
Each picture is made by our AI from your photos, in the look of a bright, modern oil painting: thick, buttery brushstrokes in the set and fine detail in the faces. Then we print it on thick, FSC/PEFC-certified paper with a silky finish, as a wall calendar.
How is it different from Classic Oil Painting?
Classic Oil Painting is a timeless portrait in rich, warm tones, in candlelit rooms and on country estates. Sunlit Oil Painting is bright and modern: fresh pastel color, soft daylight and a little luxury every month, from breakfast in bed to a vintage convertible. You can see four months of either one free.
I have three dogs. Are they all in it?
Yes. Every pet you add is in every month, side by side on the same seat, in the same tub or in the same car, with their faces to you. Many of our calendars star more than one.
Does this work for cats and other pets?
Yes. Dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs and horses all work the same way, and you can mix them. A dog and a cat sit together on the same seat like any other pair.
What if a picture does not look like her?
Have it redrawn, or tell us what to change in your own words, before anything is printed. Nothing goes to the printer until you have approved all twelve months and the cover.
Do I get the digital files as well?
Yes, at no extra cost. Your order page holds the high resolution PDF we send to the printer, and every month's artwork as its own high resolution image, so you can reprint a favourite, frame one or share it.
Can I make one of a pet who has passed away?
Yes, and many people do. We only need the photos you already have. If you would like a hand choosing them, reply to any of our emails and a person will answer you.
Is the preview really free?
Yes. You see four months of your own pets in Sunlit Oil Painting before you decide, with no card and no obligation.
When will it arrive?
We print close to where you live and post it free. Most calendars arrive within 5 business days of your approval.
